Eugene School District 4j Educational Support Services - Autism Consultation Services
Eugene School District 4J Educational Support Services provides autism consultation services to students in district who are eligible for special education and related services. District 4J currently has two autism consultants, with each consultant responsible for covering two of the district’s four regions. The autism consultants help schools in the district create better school experiences for students with ASD. The district’s autism consultants help design individualized academic, environmental, social, and other types of supports for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). They consult with teachers about particular students, assess students using a variety of methods, attend IEP meetings, help design educational and behavioral plans, and assist school psychologists with evaluations and reevaluations for students with ASD. The autism consultants also provide in-service trainings for educators. Students with ASD in District 4J may receive special education services in a variety of ways. Many students are included in regular education classrooms, with individualized educational supports, for all or part of their school day. They may also attend classes within their school’s learning center or regional learning center. District 4J has two social skills instructors who will provide a social skills group for students with ASD, at teachers’ requests. The autism consultants work closely with the social skills instructors to design social instruction. An intensive services classroom for students with ASD in K -3rd grade is available at Caesar Chavez Elementary School. This classroom provides more intensive, one-on-one and small group instruction, using best-practice interventions for students with ASD. Students may spend all or part of their school day in this classroom. Path Finder, a new District 4J school for middle and secondary students with ASD, is recognized nationally as a model program.
