membership in the ASA

The Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) is the state chapter of the national organization, the Autism Society of America (ASA). ASA is the oldest and largest grassroots organization within the autism community, with over 120,000 members. When you join ASA, you will automatically be entered into ASO’s database to receive mailers and e-mail communications about the many events that ASO hosts throughout the state of Oregon. Become an ASA member.

ASO is a non-profit organization. We depend on fund raising and donations to sponsor our programs. Donated funds are used to distribute information about autism to families and professionals through brochures, information supplements, newsletters, a web site on the Internet; provide support to parent meetings; and conferences on autism. Help send an autistic child to camp (including KindTree's Autism Camp/Retreat), help fund an educational workshop for parents of autistic children or help us grow our lending library of books on autism. Your donations support autism education, awareness, advocacy, and most importantly, enable us to assist individuals and families living with autism. Your tax-deductible donation will go to these worthwhile programs and others like them.

Today's USA Today (April 14, 2009) features a Better Business Bureau full-page ad that lists charities that have the organization's accredited seal. There is only one autism charity listed - the Autism Society of America. The ad can be found in today’s special bonus section on “Sharing in the USA.” It is on page 5E.

The Better Business Bureau seal assures donors that the charities meet the 20 rigorous BBB Wise Giving Alliance standards. We’re proud to be among their number. As ASA chapters, this is information that you can use in fundraising efforts and share with your donors. Congrats to the ASA Development team on this great placement!
